SPORTS GUARD DENTAL FULLERTON, CA

Teeth and mouth injuries are common among athletes. Sports dentists help your child manage dental injuries that can result from playing sports and prevent oral disease from occurring as a result of injury. They also help fit your child with equipment designed to protect the teeth, mouth, jaw, and face for athletes of all sports and ages.

COMMON DENTAL INJURIES IN SPORTS TOOTH KNOCKED OUT:

Every second counts when trying to save a knocked-out tooth, to get to your dentist or a hospital as soon as possible. Typically, there is only a 30-minute window of opportunity to re-implant the tooth in the socked. If possible, transport the tooth in cold milk but if that is not available, use saliva, saline, or as a last resort, water. Do not wrap the tooth in anything or let it dry out. Try to avoid touching the root of the tooth.

TOOTH CHIPPED/CRACKED:

If the chip exposes the pulp of the tooth, visit the dentist as soon as possible. When your child arrives, your dentist will likely use an X-ray to determine how to treat the chip. Sometimes the tooth can be fixed with a simple filling or bonding, but if the damage is affecting the nerve of the tooth a more complicated treatment may be necessary.

TOOTH DISPLACED:

Do not try to move the tooth back on your own. Instead, visit your dentist as soon as possible. If your child is experiencing any mouth discomfort, numb the area with ice.
