Types of Braces

types of braces

We specialize and provide many different types of braces and treatment modalities to our patients, making it easy for every individual to have the best treatment option that fits their unique goals and needs.

Some of the examples of different types of orthodontic treatments we provide include Invisalign ( clear removable aligners), Conventional metal braces, Self-ligating brackets ( Damon and Speed systems), Lingual (inside) braces, surgical (orthognathic) and accelerated orthodontics( Acceledent and Propel). We strongly advise against the Fast braces and 6 month braces techniques that are marketing hypes and usually a non-specialist dentist will be providing those that are not effective and can lead to serious damage to the teeth and gums.

Regardless of the braces type and technique we use for your treatment, the highest quality and clinically proven best is the only choice for our patients. We believe investing in the high quality materials and braces is well worth it since we want our patients to have the best outcome and experience with us. Here is some more information about some of the different types of braces we offer:

  Traditional Metal Braces

metal braces

Traditional metal braces are the most common type of braces and are more comfortable today than ever before. Made of high-grade stainless steel, metal braces straighten the teeth with different types and sizes of archwires used with them.  The elastic ties that hold the wire in place can be silver or colorful. With these types of braces, you have the option of adding colored elastic ties for a more unique and colorful smile.

Self-Ligating Braces (Damon or Speed System)

self-ligating braces

Self-ligating braces generally look similar to traditional braces (available in metal or clear types). These braces use a specialized clip in place of elastics to help secure the archwire in place and as a result there is less friction and reduced force applied to the teeth. Consequently, tooth movement can be faster and require fewer activation and adjustment appointments.

Clear (Ceramic) Braces

clear braces

Ceramic braces are made of clear materials and are therefore less visible on your teeth than metal braces. For this reason, ceramic braces are used mainly on older teenagers and adult patients who have cosmetic concerns. While they are visually less prominent, they do require more attention to oral hygiene as ceramic braces are larger and are more brittle than their metal counterparts. For these reasons, ceramic braces tend to be used more on upper front teeth than on lower teeth.

invisalign

Clear Aligners

Clear aligners are a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable acrylic trays that straighten your teeth like braces. Not only are the aligners invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment, plus brushing and flossing are less of a hassle. The aligners are comfortable and have no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment.

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are hidden behind the teeth and are therefore "invisible" when you smile. Lingual braces are 100% customized to match the shape of your teeth; the metal appliances are created uniquely for you. Lingual braces are a very reasonable option for athletes, models, actors/actresses, musicians who play wind instruments, and adult professionals.
